The Importance of Understanding Precepts
According to Proverbs 9:10, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the holy one is understanding.” Everyone who follows his instructions has an excellent understanding. Psalm 119:4, says, “You have laid down precepts that are to be fully obeyed.”
The precept is more important than the law because knowing the precept makes it easier to obey the law. .. So, the precept assists you in obeying the law; the precept says I do not want to be killed if I run across that motorway, those cars going at seventy/eighty miles per hour. I will be killed; therefore, the precept says this is a bad decision. Do you want to die? No; therefore, I obey the law, restrain myself, and put discipline on myself. Thus, precepts are more important than the law because they incentivise following the law.
It Is All In The Mind
Most countries train citizens to observe laws but never teach them the precepts. Let me cite the author of Hebrews, which I believe is very important: “The day will come when no one teaches you right from wrong, for the Lord shall write his laws on your mind.” Precepts are something that happens in the mind. He is talking about precepts that eliminate the need to fight temptation; he says you just know this is the proper thing to do. According to Psalm 119:27, “Cause me to understand the teaching of your precepts, then I will meditate on it.”
If I understand the reasoning behind the creation of the sun, the sun emits gamma rays and ultraviolet rays, which make chlorophyll in plants, producing oxygen and giving me life. So, he considered the sun’s gamma and ultraviolet radiation, which generate chlorophyll in the plant or leaf of the tree, allowing me to breathe and survive. It is not just that the sun is good, and I am alive; it is like I understand why He made the sun, and the precepts let you focus on his wonders. This is why the thought of the sun is amazing. A leaf keeps me alive; every leaf out there gives me oxygen. I will never walk past the plant again and ignore it because I understand the precept. All of this is really to tell you that if you do not get the right ideas about the kingdom of God, you get the wrong theology. So, let me understand the teaching of your precepts, and then I will meditate on your wonders: Why?
Walking Securely
Because I have sought your precepts, I will walk securely. I shall speak of your precepts before kings and will not be ashamed. Why? Once you know the precepts, you can be bold in front of a politician, prime minister, or president, which is why I am not afraid of anyone. I have uncovered certain precepts that none of those theories can refute; people believe I am smart, but I just understand precepts. David declares, “I delight in your commands because I love them.” When you know Yahweh’s precepts, you will appreciate his demands because they make sense.Psalm 119:93 says, “I will never forget your precepts, for by them you have preserved my life; save me, for I am yours; I have sought your precepts.”
You will be astounded by what is in the Bible; consider how many times the word “precepts” has been used, and you have never heard about it in your church pulpit because precepts are the most important component in life. It is the fundamental idea; David goes on, “If I learn your precepts, they preserve me, and I have more understanding than the elders because I obey your precepts.” In the Bible, “By doing it, you become smarter than your parents and teachers.” Because your teachers may have the wrong ideas, Psalm 119:104 says, “I gain an understanding of your precepts, so I hate every wrong path.” Precepts make you detest wickedness.
When having conversations, it’s important to focus on the underlying meaning of what someone is saying rather than just the exact words they use. Remember that people’s true thoughts and feelings come from them, not just the words they say. So, pay attention and be open to understanding the messages they are trying to convey.
