Fear can easily make us forget Yahweh’s past help. It magnifies today’s problems and shrinks yesterday’s victories. It whispers to us, “This time is different,” “You are on your own,” or “This challenge is too big.” But what if the secret to facing tomorrow lies not in looking ahead, but in looking back at what Yahweh has already done in your life? Your greatest encouragement might come from the story Yahweh has already written through your experiences.

Fear tends to make us forget quickly, while faith helps us remember for the long term. One of the enemy’s oldest tricks is to make us overlook what Yahweh has already done in our lives. When we forget how faithful Yahweh has been, we start to question whether He can provide for us in the future. We might find ourselves asking:
– “Will Yahweh really provide for me?”
– “Can He help me this time?”
– “What if my situation never changes?”
– “What if I am facing a problem that is too big?
Does this sound familiar?
The Israelites had a similar experience. Yahweh freed them from slavery in Egypt through amazing miracles. He parted the Red Sea so they could cross safely. He gave them manna from heaven to eat and brought water from a rock for them to drink. He also guided them with a cloud by day and a fire by night. Yet whenever they faced a new challenge, they panicked. Instead of remembering Yahweh’s faithfulness, they let their fears take over.
How often do we do this too? We might focus on a concerning doctor’s report while forgetting the prayers Yahweh has answered before. We may dwell on our disappointments instead of seeing the opportunities He has opened for us. We remember the storms in our lives but forget the many times He has safely carried us through. That is why Yahweh often told His people to remember. He did not need reminders; they did. Remembering Yahweh’s past faithfulness helps us trust Him today and face the future with hope.
The Bible’s Call to Remember
One important theme in the Bible is remembering. Yahweh often tells His people to look back on their experiences. For example, Moses says to the Israelites in Deuteronomy 8:2
Yahweh does not just want them to think about their destination—the Promised Land. He wants them to remember their journey. Why is this important? The journey reveals Yahweh’s character. It demonstrates His patience, provision, protection, guidance, mercy, and grace. Every hardship became an opportunity to see God’s faithfulness.
This idea applies to us, too. When we reflect on our experiences, we often find that Yahweh was working in our lives before we even noticed. For instance, losing a job might lead to a better opportunity. A disappointment might protect us from something worse. A delay can teach us patience in ways we could not otherwise learn. Often, we recognise God’s presence in our lives when we look back on our journey. Each step reveals His faithfulness in surprising ways.
The Louis Zamperini Story

History shows that Yahweh’s faithfulness often becomes clear only in hindsight. A great example is Louis Zamperini. As a young man, Louis was an accomplished athlete. He represented the United States as an Olympic distance runner in 1936. Many believed he had a bright future ahead, hoping to compete in the Olympics again and achieve great success.
However, his life changed dramatically when World War II began. Louis joined the United States Army Air Forces, leaving his running career behind. During a rescue mission over the Pacific Ocean, tragedy struck. His plane crashed into the sea, and of the crew, only three survived. Imagine drifting in a small life raft in the vast ocean, under a scorching sun, with barely any food and water. For 47 days, Louis floated, struggling against hunger, unending thirst, storms, and even shark attacks. Many would have lost hope, but somehow Louis held on.
Eventually, rescue came, but not in the way he expected. Instead of freedom, he was captured by enemy soldiers and spent more than two years as a prisoner of war. He faced cruelty, humiliation, hunger, physical abuse, and emotional suffering. By any measure, his life seemed broken. When the war ended, Louis returned home, but he was deeply scarred. The trauma from his experiences haunted him. Nightmares plagued him, and bitterness consumed his spirit. The bright future he once dreamed of felt out of reach.
If you had asked Louis to draw a timeline of his life then, it would have shown a series of tragedies, broken dreams, and painful memories. But Yahweh was not finished with his story. This marked the start of a significant change in Louis’s life.

Eventually, Louis returned to Japan and publicly forgave some of the men who had mistreated him during the war.

Joshua explained in Joshua 4:6–7;

Fear often clings to our past failures, while faith holds on to our experiences of Yahweh’s faithfulness. This is why fear can make today’s problems seem bigger than they really are. It tricks us into believing we have never faced anything this hard before. But if you think about your life, you will see that this is not true. Can you recall times when you thought, “I won’t get through this”? Yet here you are today, having moved past those challenges.
Maybe you were worried about finding a job, unsure of what to do next. But in those tough times, Yahweh provided for you. Perhaps you feared losing someone you loved. Even amid that grief, you found the strength to carry on. Think about moments when you believed your mistakes had ruined your future. Yet Yahweh stepped in and turned those situations around, showing that even what seemed lost could be restored. Fear tends to forget these important moments, whereas faith remembers them.
King David shows us this well. When he faced Goliath, he did not focus on how big the giant was. Instead, he remembered how Yahweh had helped him before. He told King Saul that the Yahweh who had saved him from a lion and a bear would also save him from Goliath.
David looked back at his past experiences with Yahweh to find confidence. His trust was not based on wishful thinking but on real experiences with a faithful Yahweh. How to Create Your Faith Timeline
Let us create your personal timeline together. You do not need to be an artist or spend a lot of money. All you need is a notebook and a willingness to be honest about your life.
Start by drawing a simple horizontal line across a blank page. This line will represent your life over time.
Think about the important moments that have shaped you. These can include major events such as birthdays, graduations, or job changes, as well as smaller but meaningful moments, such as conversations or decisions. Place these moments on the line in the order they happened, adding dates or ages if that helps you remember.
Do not worry about making it perfect. This is about capturing your story. Focus on being honest and reflective. Each moment, big or small, is part of who you are today. Use this opportunity to document the events that matter to you. For Example:

Highlight Yahweh’s Faithfulness
Once you finish your timeline, take time to review it. Mark every moment when you clearly see Yahweh’s influence in your life. You can use a highlighter, put a star next to it, draw a coloured circle around it, or simply write “Yahweh was here.”
You might be surprised by how many moments stand out. Maybe someone encouraged you just when you needed it. Perhaps an unexpected opportunity arose. Think about times when Yahweh gave you peace, even when it did not seem to make sense. Recall moments when a door you wanted to open closed, only for something better to appear later.
These are not coincidences. They are reminders that Yahweh has been guiding your story all along.
What If You Cannot See Yahweh’s Hand?
If you are reading this and wondering, “Where was Yahweh in all this?” you are not alone. Many heroes in the Bible also faced times when Yahweh seemed silent. Consider Joseph. He endured much. His brothers sold him into slavery. He was falsely accused of a crime and ended up in prison, where he was forgotten by everyone. For years, his life seemed to make no sense.
Imagine if Joseph had ended his story while still in prison. It would have looked like failure. But Yahweh was still at work. Later, when Joseph had a chance to speak to his brothers again, he said Genesis 50:20.
Joseph understood Yahweh’s purpose only by looking back on his struggles. One day, you might also see the reasons behind your challenges. Do not judge Yahweh’s faithfulness by a single unfinished chapter. The story of your life is still being written.

Another option is, “My situation may change, but I know that Yahweh’s character remains the same.” You could also say, “If Yahweh helped me through yesterday, He will help me through tomorrow.”
Say this declaration out loud every morning this week. Let it guide how you see each challenge you face. Use it to strengthen your spirit and keep you focused.

The Pattern You Never Noticed
Have you ever looked at a tapestry from the back? At first, it can look confusing. You see loose threads, knots, and crossing lines. Nothing seems to make sense. But when you turn it over, a beautiful picture appears. Our lives can be like that tapestry. During tough times, we often focus only on the loose threads. We ask ourselves why some opportunities disappeared or why our prayers seem unanswered. We wonder why painful experiences happened and why life did not go as we planned.
However, Yahweh sees the full picture—the finished masterpiece. As Romans 8:28 reminds us.
This verse tells us that Yahweh works in all things, not just in the easy times, successes, or victories. Even our painful moments have purpose within His greater plan.
Consider Louis Zamperini. He survived a plane crash and endured terrible experiences as a prisoner of war. These moments were not wasted. Yahweh used his suffering to shape him into a man who would inspire millions through his story of forgiveness, resilience, and faith. When Louis looked back on his life, he saw Yahweh’s plan rather than random events. One day, you might look back and discover the same in your own life.
Your Greatest Test Can Become Your Greatest Testimony
One of the enemy’s biggest lies is this: “Your mistakes have ruined Yahweh’s plan for your life.” Yet the Bible tells a different story.
Consider Peter. He was one of Yeshua’s closest disciples, known for his confidence. He boldly declared, “I will never deny you!” Yet only a few hours later, when faced with danger, he denied knowing Yeshua three times.
Imagine the shame Peter felt afterwards. He probably thought his chance to serve Yahweh was over before it had even begun. He might have believed he was no longer worthy of his calling. After Yeshua rose from the dead, He did not turn away from Peter. Instead, He reached out to him. On the shores of the Sea of Galilee, Yeshua asked Peter three times, “Do you love me?” Each time, Peter said yes, and Yeshua gave him a new purpose: “Feed my sheep.”
This act restored Peter and showed that Yeshua had a plan for him beyond his mistakes. What Peter believed would disqualify him became part of his story of strength and hope for many other believers. The same God who restored Peter can restore you. Your past may explain your pain, but it does not determine your future. Yahweh specialises in healing and making things new. He can turn broken beginnings into beautiful endings.
When You Feel Like Nothing Is Happening
You might be going through a quiet season in your life right now. There may be no breakthroughs, clear answers, or miraculous events. It can feel like you are just waiting. If this is where you are, remember that Yahweh is still at work. Think about a seed. When planted in the ground, it can seem as if nothing is happening. Days go by, sometimes even weeks, without any visible change. Yet beneath the soil, important things are happening. Roots grow, strength builds, and life prepares to emerge.
Your spiritual life often follows a similar process. Yahweh usually does His deepest work in ways that are not visible to others, and sometimes even to you. The waiting time might be a time of preparation. Do not mistake silence for absence. Yahweh may be working most powerfully when He seems quietest.

Consider your daily experiences, the challenges you encountered, and what you learned. Think about what went well and what you can improve. Spiritual Encouragement
The same Yahweh who guided Abraham through hardship, protected Joseph amid betrayal, and gave David the strength to defeat Goliath is the God who restored Peter after Peter denied Yeshua. He also transformed Louis Zamperini’s life from hardship to hope. This same Yahweh is with you today, offering support, strength, and a sense of purpose. Hebrews 13:8
His character does not change. His promises remain steadfast. His love stays constant. His power does not fade. If He has been faithful in the past, both in history and in your life, He will remain faithful tomorrow.

Looking Forward with Confidence
You may not know what tomorrow will bring, but you can trust the One who holds the future. Do not let fear decide what happens next in your life. Do not let doubt erase the times when Yahweh has been faithful to you. And do not let anxiety make you feel alone. Instead, take a moment to look back on your life. Remember the challenges you have faced and how you got through them. Be thankful for the good things you have experienced. Trust Yahweh again, even if you cannot see the full path ahead.
Then take a step forward. You do not need to wait for a perfectly clear path; move ahead with faith. The Yahweh who has guided you so far has promised never to leave you. Your past is proof of His goodness. Your present is supported by His grace. Your future is safe in His hands. Move forward confidently. The Author of your life is still writing your story. Considering all He has done so far, the best chapter may still be ahead.
